Gabion Mattresses, also known as Reno Mattresses are gabion products that are similar in construction to gabion baskets except that these units are relatively wider, with less depth than standard gabions. They come manufactured in double twisted hexagonal woven wire mesh, in both galvanized steel wire mesh and PVC coated wires, which is often used for longer life in water or aggressive environments.
Gabion Mattresses are compartmented baskets with a rectangular mattress shape and are available in various sizes and dimensions. They contain internal diaphragms that are filled on the job site with stone and linked together, thus creating a strong, permeable, flexible earth retention structure. The compartment or cells of the gabion mattress are of equal size and dimension and are formed by internal diaphragms being placed within the basket providing even distribution of the stone fill throughout the mattress, even after structural movement. Even distribution of the stone fill ensures that the reno mattress maintains intimate contact with the foundation soil.
